Review: Disengaged

Disengaged Disengaged by Jamie Magee

This was my first read for Jamie Magee and I was simply blown away. This book has all the stuff that keeps you reading and not stopping. Ember was raised by her grandmother in a small town; when her grandmother passes she then goes with her father who has barely been in her life. Ember is thrown into a world unlike the one she has lived in all her life with danger everywhere even at home with her dead beat father. Slayton enters Embers life like a very intense storm and in every storm there is something beautiful and that’s what Ember see’s when she first sees Slayton. Ember is very confused about what’s going on between them at first until Slayton explains to Ember the danger she is in because of her father daemons that he can’t let go of. Fast forward Ember gets caught up in all the things Slayton was trying to protect her from the seedy underworld of drugs and sex slave trade, underground fighting and death. Their story is not your everyday love story; their story is dark, gritty a dirty journey plague with sadness, it’s not the everyday happy ending but they get there.
